We stopped to check out one of the campsites on Guskewau Lake and immediately fell in love with the algonqujn vowing to come back and spend a few days at this campsite. Algonquin simply doesn’t have the kind of breathtaking land-based scenery you might find in mountainous areas, and backpackers spend most of their trip walking through thick forests with occasional views of lakes. I saw several moose on the trail when I completed this trail over two days, and even heard some wolves howling in the foggy morning!


Our first major stop was at Maple Bafkpacking Lake about two and a half hours later. However, when booking a site over the phone, I mixed up my East and West and we ended up on Maggie East. Terrain is fairly challenging if you’re carrying several days of supplies but not that rewarding as it doesn’t lead to any terribly special locations.
